Mangalore, Dec 4: The auto rickshaw drivers under the banner of their unions like Mangalore City Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union, Federation of Karnataka Auto Drivers Unions, DK District Committee, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Auto Rickshaw Drivers Wing, Motor and General Mazdoor Union demonstrated in front of the DC office here on Monday November 3 demanding lawful auto fare hike.
Addressing the gathering, L T Suvarna of Federation of Karnataka Auto Drivers Unions DK District Committee said that the auto drivers are demanding their fare hike on the backdrop of increasing in fuel price and that of spare parts as well.
He said that the district administration has the authority of regularizing the revised price, but failing to act on its part despite submitting repetitive appeal by the unions.
Shekar of Mangalore City Auto Rickshaw Drivers’ Union DK, Jayaprakash Shetty of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Autorickshaw Drivers Wing, Umesh Shetty of Motor and General Mazdoor Union among others were present.
There are more than 14000 autos operating in the district. Several auto drivers took part in the demonstration as mark of their consent with the demand.
