Mangalore: 'Gaanalahari' Carol Singing Contest Gets Off to a Melodious Start

Mangalore, Nov 30: Christa Jayanthi Gaanalahari-2012 multi-lingual carol singing competition was off to a brilliant start at St Vincent Ferrer Church grounds, Valencia here on Friday November 30.
Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza presided over the programme while Manohar Prasad, bureau chief of Udayavani and Felix D’Souza, environmentalist were the guests of honour.
Dr Honey Cabral, principal of KTC, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, Valencia parish priest, Anil Lobo, president of Catholic Sabha, Flavia Sequeira, secretary shared the dais.
The English carol singing competition was inaugurated by playing a trumpet.
Speaking after the inauguration, Bishop said that Christmas is celebrated by most of the religions other than Konkani language adding he said on December 9, Christmas celebration will be held at governor’s office at Bangalore.
He lauded the organizers for organizing the carol singing competition in three languages, that is in English, Kannada and Konkani.
Manohar Prasad in his address said that music gives one peace and singing is the only way through which one can connect with god. He appreciated the organizers for putting up such a unique competition and asked the contestants to give their best.
Around 15 groups from three districts exhibited their talents in carol singing. The entire venue resounded with melodious carols that not only won the hearts of the audience but also set in the festive spirit of Christmas.
City-based Ocean Kids dance troupe entertained the audience with their performances.
Fr J B Crasta, Fr William Rosario, Louis J Pinto, Dolphy Saldanha among others were present.
