Kundapur, Nov 29: Manjunath, the boy who had attempted suicide along with his female companion in a bus from Nelamangala, passed away at Wenlock hospital in Mangalore on Thursday November 29.
Manjunath, who had his second PU student in Chikkaballapur PU College, has been working at a medical store in Chikkaballapur. He and Manasa, a first year PU student of the same college, who were neighbours had fallen in love with each other but feared that their parents would never consent to their marriage. With an intention to die together, the two got married at a temple before taking the extreme step in the bus.
The duo then consumed an overdose of tablets during the overnight bus journey from Nelamangala to Kundapur.
While Manasa was found dead on the arrival of the bus at Kundapur, Manjunath had been rushed to hospital in a critical condition. He was later shifted to Wenlock hospital in Mangalore.
After battling for life for over a day, Manjunath passed away on Thursday. It was said that he had married Manasa before the couple ended their lives.
Manasa's body was sent back to her hometown while Manjunath's parents came down to Mangalore to receive his mortal remains.
A case has been registered by Chikkaballapur police.
