Mangalore, Nov 29 : The vast, exclusive, green-smothered campus of Mahatma Gandhi Centenary (MGC) composite PU/High School, at Bondel, Mangalore, came alive on November 29, 2012 to mark its Annual Day with teachers, students and their parents enthusiastically joining the celebrations.
The celebrations got under way with the school’s own brass band leading the President of the function, Fr Andrew D’Souza, Parish Priest, St. Lawrence Church, Bondel, along with other dignitaries, being led to the vast school playground, escorted by Sr. Matilada, Headmistress, and other school functionaries.
The action at the venue started with colourfully costumed and bejeweled school girls rendering the welcome song and dance – the starting point of other attractive presentations, starting at 3 PM and stretching beyond sundown.
In her annual report Sr. Matilda had some proud achievements to share with the eager audience of several hundreds. Started in 1970, the campus has grown rapidly, both in terms of student strength and infrastructure. Apart from the higher primary section, the campus hosts 382 Kannada medium, 222 English medium students in the high school and 287 Pre-University students
Sr. Matilda said that in the 2012 SSLC Exam, of the 160 students, 150 passed and in PU, of the 130, 128 passed, giving a percentage of 95 and 98, respectively. Giving an accent to job-orientation, the campus has a computer lab with 35 PCs for the students to use by turn.
Explaining the various development projects executed during the current year and planned for the future, Sr. Matilda said that the school has secured permissions from the educational authorities to start more sections in the English medium stream.
