Breakfast Diplomacy Over Hyderabad Karnataka

New Delhi, Nov 27: With the issue of according special status for the development of the backward Hyderabad-Karnataka region snowballing into a major political controversy following the BJP-led Government’s move to scuttle the move to insist on the Constitutional amendment on the subject be on the lines of the one in favour of Telangana region in Hyderabad under Article 371, Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar hosted a special breakfast to all MPs from the State at Karnataka Bhavan in Delhi.

The three union ministers from the State – Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily, who is a former chief minister of the State, Labour and Employment Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge, who hails from the region, and Union Minortiy Welfare Minister K Rehman Khan – were among the MPs who attended the breakfast hosted by the Chief Minister in Delhi.

Karnataka Chief Secretary S V Ranganath accompanied Shettar.

The Chief Minister briefed all the MPs, including the State’s Union Ministers, to prevail upon the Centre to accord the special status to the Hyderabad-Karnataka region under Article 371 on the model of that of Telangana as it would be more beneficial to the State and the people in terms of employment and education and also special financial grants.

Shettar also urged the MPs to press the Centre to voice their support for the early implementation of the special status to be conferred on Hyderabad Karnataka region.

The other MPs who attended the meeting, included Rajya Sabha members: Dr Rama Jois, Venkiah Naidu.

The Lok Sabha members were: Ananth Kumar (Bengaluru South), Shivarama Gouda (Koppal), Janardhana Swamy (Chitradurga), Ramesh Jigjinagi(Bijapur), J Shantha (Bellary), Sanna Fakirappa (Raichur), P C Mohan (Bengaluru Central) and P C Gaddi Goudar (Bagalkot).

    Just when north Karnataka was due to get some funds and developments, these politicos are out to stop it. Sad and unfortunate.
