Mangalore: Thieves Break into House at Balmatta, Decamp with Gold Worth Rs 15 Lac

Mangalore, Nov 26: In a major theft reported on Sunday November 25, gold jewellery worth Rs 15 lac was stolen from a house at Balmatta.
Owner of the house Althaf and his family were out on the occasion of Muharram when the incident took place.
It is said that thieves broke into the house through the front door on early Sunday morning. A few of the neighbours reportedly heard sounds but did not suspect anything amiss.
The thieves decamped with 54 sovereigns of gold and Rs 8,000 in cash, altogether worth around Rs 15 lac.
The gold jewellery belonged to Althaf's aunt Zulekha and her daughter Samra, his wife's aunt Umra and another relative Nooriya Asif.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Althaf said that the family has earlier gone on week-long trips but this was the first time such an incident had taken place.
A case has been registered in the Kadri police station and investigations are on.
