Kasargod, Nov 23: A native of Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district was stabbed here on Thursday November 22 night, allegedly for being a Kannadiga.
The victim is Hamza (27), a bakery owner at Kotekani. He was stabbed by miscreants at Kotekani junction while he was returning home from work. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore.
It is said that two persons who were waiting for him on Kotekani road stopped him and demanded to know if he knew Kannada. They then stabbed him and fled the spot after he began shouting for help.
The injured Hamza was rushed to Kasargod hospital by the locals. As he was in serious condition, he was shifted to a hospital in Mangalore. His condition is said to be critical.
Meanwhile, a large number of people gathered at Kasargod hospital, and police had to use lathi charge to disperse the crowd. A few were injured in the process.
Kasargod police have registered a case against two persons on a complaint filed by Hasan, who is Hamza's partner in the bakery.
