Mangalore: Pundalik Naik to Get Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Book Award 2012

Mangalore, Nov 23: Renowned playwright and poet, Pundalik Naik of Goa will receive Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Book Award 2012.
This was announced by World Konkani Centre, Shaktinagar in a communique issued to the media.

Naik will receive Rs 1 lac for his collection of plays titled 'Rang-Kavya' during a programme scheduled to be held on December 12 in Mangalore. 'Rang-Kavya' contains five of his new Konkani plays.
Prof Mallepuram G Venkateshara, chancellor, Sanskrit University, Bangalore will bestow the award on Naik. T V Mohandas Pai, who has instituted this award in his mother's name will be present during the occasion.
Konkani litterateur, lyricist and activist of Konkani movement, Uday L Bhembre will be given Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award during the occasion.
Pundalik Naik is the current president of Goa Konkani Academy. He was its president for two terms between 2002 and 2008. He has published more than 20 plays and numerous other genres of literature like novels, poetry, essays. His radio play 'Mornakatto' has won for him not only the All India Radio award but also an International Award. His book of plays 'Chowrang' won him the Sahitya Akademi Award in the year 1984.
In 2010, he won the lifetime achievement award from Kala Academy, Goa.
The jury comprised Uday Bhembre as its president and Tanaji Halrankar, Fr Mark Walder, Melvyn Rodrigues and Gokuldas Prabhu as its members.
On earlier two occasions the award was won by Mahabaleshwar Sail and Damodar Mauzo for their novels.
