Bangalore: Meera Saksena, Chandrashekar Gurubasappa Appointed to KSHRC

Bangalore, Nov 20: Finally, the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has got two members.

Karnataka Governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj has issued the order appointing former IAS officer Meera Saksena and Retired District and Sessions Judge Chandrashekar Gurubasappa Hungund as the members of the KHHRC.

The names were finalized after several rounds of consultations with the leaders of opposition and also within the State Government.

Saksena had retired recently as the Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner of the State Government.

The State Government, however, has not yet appointed Chairperson for the Commission.
The post of Chairman of the KSHRC has been vacant since about three months after the retirement of Justice S R Nayak.

Nayak retired on July 25, while two other members - B Parthasarathy and R H Raddi - retired on March 2 and July 27 respectively upon completing their five-year terms.

The post of secretary has been vacant since the retirement of Javid Pasha on June 30.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and Home and Transport Minister R Ashok held several rounds of meetings with Leader of the Opposition and Presiding Officers of both Houses of the State Legislature to find a suitable candidate for chairperson for the commission and members of the commission.
