Udupi: State-level Chess Tourney - DK Bags Lion's Share of Top Ranks

Udupi, Nov 20: Youngsters from Dakshina Kannada district have bagged the lion's share of top ranks in the state-level chess tournament for primary and secondary school boys and girls that concluded at Santhekatte, Kallianpur here on Tuesday November 20.
The tournament was organized by Mount Rosary English Medium School under the aegies of the state department of public instruction.
As many as eight youngsters - Reesha Shenoy, Panchami Shenoy K, Swathi K Bhat, Chirag Hirinja, Shalon Joanne Pais, Shabdik Varma and Pangal Gopalkrishna Nayak from Dakshina Kannada are among the top five ranks in their respective categories.
K Raghupathi Bhat, MP, Udupi presided over the prize distribution ceremony and distributed the prizes to the winners.
The other guests of honour were Fr Philiph Neri Aranha, Gowri Poojary, president, taluk panchayat, Udupi, Jayanthi B Suvarna, member, taluk panchayat, Moodu Thonse, Shankara Poojary, former president, zilla panchayat, Mood Thonse, Kumar, special DC, Udupi, Pranesh Rao, joint secretary, ZP Udupi, Nagesh Shyanbhag, BEO Brahmavar, S Nagendra Madhystha, joint director, education department, Seethanadi Vittal Shetty, DOP, Udupi, Madhukar S, TPEO, Brahmavar and Sr Adrian Serrao SRA, headmistress, Mount Rosary School.
Ananya S of Kodagu, Tulsi M of Mysore, and Reesha Shenoy, Panchami Shenoy K and Swathi K Bhat all from Dakshina kannada secured the top five places in the under-14 girls category, respectively.
They will now be representing Karnataka state in under-14 category at the School Game Federation of India’s National Chess Tournament 2012-13 to be held in Maharashtra during the third week of December.
Nikhilesh Holla of Dakshina Kannada, Shashwat S Mudenagudi of Dharwad, Dhyaan S Nayak of Karwar, Chirag Hirinja of Dakshina Kannada, Chiranth M D of Shimoga won the top five places in the under-14 boys category.
Shalon Joanne Pais of Dakshina Kannada, Gangamma BN of Mysore, Vani S Indrali of Dharwad, Sumathi of Mysore and Sanjana of Shimoga came up triumphs in the under-17 girls category.
Augustin A of Kodagu, Pangal Gopalkrishna Nayak of Dakshina Kannada, Nikhil R Umesh of Shimoga, Shabdik Varma of Dakshina Kannada and Satvik M of Bangalore North bagged the top five ranks in under-17 boys category.
