Udupi: Kadengodlu Shankar Bhat Poetry Award Conferred on Rudreshwaraswamy

Udupi, Nov 18: M S Rudreshwara Swamy of Bangalore bagged ‘Kadengodlu Shankar Bhat Poetry Award’ for his ‘Aa Teerada Moha’ poetry collection here on Saturday November 17.

The award ceremony was jointly organized by Manipal academy of general education, Rastrakavi Govind Pai Research Centre and by MGM College Udupi.

The award to M S Rudreshwara Swamy was given by lexicon expert Prof Venkatta Subayya and Vishwatheertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math blessed the programme.

Speaking after presenting the award, Venkatta Subayya said Kannada language should be taught to students of other states and other languages. "It is very easy to teach students, hence if this task is undertaken then students can learn the language before they are 10 years of age," he said.

The speculation that Kannada language has been declining is not true, he said adding there are six crore people in rural areas who mainly use Kannada language to communicate.

He asked government to implement compulsory Kannada education to students of Class I till Class 10.

Venkatta Subayya said that completely English-Kannada dictionary should be created and for this purpose a team of youth philosophers are required. If the team is formed, I am ready to train them, he added.

On the occasion, professor Venkatta Subayya was honored.

Area Dr LaxmiNarayana Alva, philosopher, HS Ballal, vice chancellor of Manipal University, Dr HP Shantharam, managing director of Manipal university, writer Dr Kabbinale Vasantha Bharadhwaj, Eshwar Bhat, P Venkataramana Gowda, principal of MGM College among others were present.
