Mangalore: District Congress Celebrates Nehru's Birth Anniversary

Mangalore, Nov 15: India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru's birth anniversary was celebrated by the district Congress by lending a floral tribute to Nehru’s portrait here on Wednesday November 14.

Speaking on this occasion, district Congress president Ramanath Rai said that Nehru was the one who implemented the Five Year Plan and tried to make the nation strong. "As Nehru had highly supported the plans of the then Mangalore MP Srinivas Mallya’s developmental projects, today, Mangalore has been able to get such advance so much," he added.

Addressing the gathering, KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza said that there is no doubt that Nehru has struggled a lot to build the nation before and after independence.

"He had built a strong relation with foreign countries and had made the world admire India. Even when  the economic conditions during his prime ministeral tenure were not that stable, he had taken our nation towards development with hard work and dedication," he added.

DK zilla panchayat ex-president Mamatha Gatti, zilla panchayat member Yashawanthi Alva and women Congress leader Kripa Amar Alva were present among others.

    It is nice to see Mr.Ramanath Rai mentioning the name of former MP Ullal Srinivas Mallya beause of whose efforts todays Mangalore is.Its an endorsement of the fact that later MPs from Mangalore be it from Congress or BJP have done nothing.November 11 was the birthday of Late Mallya but I didnt seen any news about celebration of the day any where in DK.Are we ungrateful to such an extent?

    Jawaharlal Nehru was impressed by socialism it is an established fact. However, socialism was not only an idea for him, but essentially a matter of practice.
    Socialism is a system in which:
    1. There is large-scale social co-operation, or national-level teamwork, particularly for the development of technology
    2. Poverty in labour classes is eradicated
    3. The state is ruled by those who accord a right direction to the labour and
    4. The society is guided by the science.
    According to him, “political democracy” is only the way to the goal and is not the final objective. The final objective is undoubtedly “social democracy.” He was also committed in both principle and practice, to bring about a fundamental change in the system under prevailing situation of the country and on the basis of available resources so that the mass poverty could be eliminated.
    He says, leaders and individuals may come and go they may get tired and slacken off they may compromise and betray but the exploited and suffering masses must carry on the struggle, for their drill sergeant is hunger.
    India-Today is what he had visualized then and according to him “political democracy” has no meaning if it does not embrace “economic democracy”. And “economic democracy” is nothing but “socialism”. “Monopoly by those big industrialists then, was the enemies of socialism.”
    If not for ‘Chacha Nehru’ our country would have gone to the hands of Hindutva RSS, the country would have disintegrated and there would have been miseries all over.

    India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a very GREAT LEADER of India. Democracy sustained in India, Though he got continuous power, he was not greedy, many other leaders under such circumstances became dictators. Under his leadership Shri. Vallabhbhai Patel, created linguistic states, but today we can not even handle border disputes. His was the time Foreign countries would admire India, for HE WAS MAN OF WORD. But today our own Countrymen do not trust our leaders. Present leaders have not taught to respect, show gratitude to their fore fathers/leaders.
