Mangalore, Nov 13: "Limericks are lively, they appeal to people. Limericks should be as sharp as an arrow, to write a limerick a person must be prepared and trained like an archer with an arrow and bow," said veteran litterateur Udyavara Madhava Acharya.
He was speaking at the inaugural of the Udupi district literature festival organized by Pariyaya Sode Math, Mysore Limerick Parishad, Udupi and Dakishina Kannada Chutuku Parishad in Udupi.
He also added that Kannada is rich with literary words, but unfortunately, to build Kannada literature words have been adopted from other languages which has made Kannada literature weak.
"Poetry should not be prose but it should be a fine art in literature. The use of other languages in Kannada literature weakened the Kannada language; if we don’t use the language properly then we will soon lose the language itself," he said.
Scholars, litterateur, poets dreamt about the indiscrete Karnataka, for which they shed their blood. They are said to maintain united Karnataka by using Kannada language but the current strategy is disintegrating Karnataka.
Kota Shrinivasa poojary, after releasing the Jevanadatha Desai collected poems and said, "Art, literature and prose make work nearer to the heart , Rs 2 crore has been sanctioned in the budget to protect and preserve Kannada land and the language".
An attempt has also been made to translate the work of Jnana Peeta awardees, so that the world may know their contribution. Land has been to build a Kannada literature hall in the district very soon, he added.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat released a book on limericks by S Ramesh called 'Gubhin Kalarava', Pramod Madwaraj released the book called ‘Ranjitha Chutuku’.
Dr M J R Arasu, state chief convener of Mysore Kendra Chutuku Parishad presided over the programme.
On this occasion National awardees, teacher Kudhi Vasantha Shetty and Dr M J R Arasu, state chief convener of Mysore Kendra Chutuku Parishad were felicitated.
Srinivasa Thantri, Divana Padigara of Soudhe Mutt , limerick writer Halappa, town municipal vice president Bharathi Chandrashekar, Poorna Prajna College Principal Madhavi Bhandary, Dugge Gowda director of SKDRDP, planning officer Dayavathi, JS Panni were present.
DK Sahithya Parishad president Ira Neemu Poojary presented the key note address, Udupi Sahithya Parishad president Thara Achrya welcomed the gathering while Sathish H Shetty compered the programme.
