Ajman, Nov 9: On the eve of the concluding session of the fourth annual scientific meeting held on the14th anniversary of the Gulf Medical University (GMU), chief guest Thumbay Moideen, founder president, board of governors of GMU launched the inaugural online issue of the Gulf Medical Journal (GMJ).
The launching event was attended by a large gathering which included the patron of the journal Thumbay Moideen, provost, GMU and editor-in-chief of the journal Professor Gita Ashok Raj, members of the editorial board of the journal, faculty and staff of GMU.
Dr Gamini Premadasa – assistant director, IRU/CME & CPD/MEU welcomed the large gathering. Professor Gita Ashok Raj delivered the opening remarks, “With the launch of Gulf Medical Journal, GMU has crossed another milestone. The Gulf Medical Journal is a multidisciplinary biannual biomedical journal that will provide a forum for the dissemination of advancements of scientific knowledge in all the branches of Medicine and allied Health Sciences.We strongly believe in reaching and improving the health of the communities we serve through three important components - Education, Research and Healthcare. We sincerely hope that in the near future GMU will function as a research based institution”.
She welcomed the manuscripts from academicians, clinicians and other researchers that deal with topics of special interest to the practitioners and the community in the Gulf region. The biannual publication in keeping with its name will focus mainly on research done in education, research and healthcare in the fields of medicine and allied health sciences in the Gulf countries.
Professor Raja Bandaranayake, member – International Advisory Board of GMU received the first copy of the GMJ from Thumbay Moideen.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Jayadevan Shreedharan, assistant director, research division, GMU.
