Bangalore, Nov 5: St John’s National Academy of Health Sciences is organizing a four-day medical exhibition 'MEDex2012' from November 7 to 10 at the St John’s Medical College campus in Koramangala as a curtain-raiser for the golden jubilee celebrations of the St John’s Medical College next year.
The focus of the exhibition, being inaugurated by Karnataka’s Medical Education Department Principal Secretary K S Prabhakara, is to create enthusiasm among people about medicine, health and related matters and fulfill the role as a leading healthcare provider by educating the public about prevention and management of diseases for the betterment of public health.
Fr Lawrence D’Souza, Director of St John’s National Academy of Medical Sciences, will preside over the inaugural function of exhibition which will have partners in healthcare such as NGOs, insurance companies, medical equipment manufacturers to showcase their works in their respective fields.
The exhibition will be interactive in nature, providing students with an opportunity to “see, touch and feel” different biological structures and experience firsthand the thrills of modern medicine and surgery through various stalls on medical and surgical specialities, informative displays on different aspects of the human body, information on prevention and treatment of different diseases, specimens, models, simulations, videos of operative procedures, medical equipment and instruments, state-of-the art surgical equipment and infotainment programmes.
There will be stalls by the traffic police and the fire and emergency services department to educate the public about prevention of road traffic accidents and fire safety.
A unique attraction will be the career counseling sessions to inform, educate and sensitise students about the varied career and vocational opportunities available in Medicine, Nursing, Laboratory science, Paramedical services, Epidemiology, Genetics, Nutrition and Biomedical Instrumentation, explained Fr Lawrence D’Souza.
