Mangalore, Nov 5: The Centenary Jubilee sports meet was held at the Holy Cross Church grounds, Cordel, Kulshekar here on November 4.
Fr Valerian Pinto inaugurated the fest by lighting of the sports torch which was taken along with the students march past.
Atheletes ran along with the sports torch which was brought to the church grounds and handed over to guest of honor Elias Fernandes, proprietor, Four Winds. Steevan Dias, state level gold medalist at the walkathon and central officer, hoisted the sports day flag.
Hundred balloons were released by the guests of honor into the sky to celebrate the centenary sports festival.
Steevan Dias appreciated the abundant gathering of all the parishners and said that, "this shows the collective encouragement and promotion of the young talents in the church. Sports needs to be given more importance among our youth especially in our busy modern lives".
Around 1500 parishners gathered around to participate in the hundred different categories of the sports meet which were held across different section of the church grounds.
Praveen Patrao, parish pastoral parishad vice president; Fr Rupesh and Roshan, assistant parish priests were also present.
