Mangalore, Nov 1: The DK district Congress Sevadal organized a booth level workers’ convention to mark the 28th death anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi at Town Hall here on Wednesday October 31.
Addressing the Sevadal workers, the chief guest of the programme, AICC secretary Vinay Kumar Sorake said that the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to eradicate poverty in the nation was realized by Indira Gandhi through various reforms like land reform act and nationalization of banks.
Emphasizing on the importance of Sevadal, Sorake said that the Sevadal workers are known for their selfless service to the nation.
He also said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi is keen on strengthening the Sevadal at the grass root level.
"There are 54,000 booths of Sevadal in Karnataka and various programmes will be chalked out in the coming days," he said.
Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary said that the Sevadal workers' selfless service to the nation is widely acclaimed and they do not work with any greed for power.
Former district Congress president, MLA B Ramanath Rai along with other leaders, hoisted the flag of Sevadal and paid floral tribute to the portrait of Indira Gandhi.
Leaders Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey, Bheemashankar, mayor Gulzar Banu, Ivan D’Souza, U T Khader, Ibrahim Kodijal, Haji H M Ashraf were present among the others.
