Bantwal, Oct 31: Thieves broke into a house belonging to one Sugandhi Govinda and decamped with valuables and cash, near Vittal here on Monday October 29.
The thieves broke open the window from the rear side of the house and managed to flee the scene.
Sugandhi Govinda had been to a programme at Vittal Pancha Lingeshwar temple when the thieves entered the house. When Sugandhi returned back home in the evening, she was shocked to see the misplaced items in the house. Gold ornaments weighing eight sovereigns, Rs 14,000 cash, driving license were found to be stolen.
Bantwal Circle Inspector Anil S Kulkarni, Vittal SI Madhava Koodlu and staffs arrived at the spot and inspected the place at around 8 pm.
The police pressed into service a sniffer dog squad and finger print experts but no valid clues could be found.
Though the incident occurred on Monday, no case was registered in this regard till Tuesday evening at Vittal police station. When enquired about the value of stolen items, police only managed to answer that the process of registering FIR is on.
Serial thefts have been taking place in Vittal police station limits from past few days, and even earlier no cases have been registered.
Public is of the opinion that stringent action will solve the repeated cases of burglary.
