Mangalore, Oct 30 : Sunday October 28, 2012 was the hottest day in October as compared to past several decades. In Panambur the temperature was recorded at 36 degree Celsius, a new record for the month of October in the last 35 years.
Similarly, Sunday was the hottest in Karwar at 39.5 degree Celsius, which had never happened in the last 135 years !
Normally, this kind of hot weather is experienced in summer, and such temperatures at the end of rainy season and the threshold of winter are rare, say elderly people in Mangalore.
"Such weather usually is an indication of rain, but there has been little or no rain in the last few days. Rain at this time of the year will harm the farmers, as this is the time for cultivation," said a farmer in Suratkal.
On the whole, the cool-hot weather is confusing the people of coastal Karnataka. As one student put it, it is like having ice cream with hot chocolate cake!
