Mangalore: Beehive on Dubai-bound Aircraft Delays Flight

Mangalore, Oct 27 (DHNS): Passengers due to board a Dubai-bound Air India Express at Mangalore International Airport, experienced an unannounced delay after ground crew spotted a beehive on the tail of the aircraft on Friday.

The bees were discovered during the pre-departure flight check. Air India Express authorities delayed the boarding of the aircraft for safety reasons. Officials suspect that the bees built the hive when aircraft was docked in the hangar for over 14 hours.

Cleared

Passengers were allowed to board the flight only after the tail was cleared. The flight, whose intended time of departure was 11.45 am, finally took off at 12.30 pm.

    In which hangar was aircraft parked for 14 hrs? was it in Mangalore ? If not in mangalore, guess how was aircraft released to fly to Mangalore. Safety is same, be it with passenger or without.

    Pitot tubes are situated on both sides of the nose section just below the windshield & not on the wings. You can see them in the second photograph. In flight freezing of pitot tube was one of the reasons of the crash of AF447. But the crash was mainly due to disorientation & lack of experience of the pilot in charge at the time of the crash. In the case of Birgen Air crash, a mud dabber wasp blocked the tube, when the aircraft was on the ground for 25 days without protection to the tubes. In the case of Aero Peru crash a ground crew forgot to remove the duct tape used to cover the tubes once the cleaning was done.

    Joel.. rightly said. It is on the "winglet" and not the tail section as mentioned.

    This is where the "Pitot tubes" are lcoated which measures the "air-speed" of the aircraft.

    This was the main reason for the "non functioning" of pitot tubes for crash of AF from Rio to Paris.

    just like a car measures speed by the rotation of tires on ground. these tubes measure speed while in the air.

    Destruction of unauthorized construction.The intelligent bees constructed the hive within 14 hours without obtaining permission/licence from the concerned authorities.No financial aid was availed. The only slogan was "UNITY is Strength". Alas! the human being destroyed the construction within no time on charges of unauthorized construction.Beware! unauthorized constructions will be demolished without notice.

    Beehive is very dangerous, if this happens on the pitot tubes( though they close it with the appropriate stoppers) with carelessness it will be a disaster!The autopilot will not work and Pilot will have no clue about their true airspeed indication. its good some one detected and fortunately it was in the tail.This should be an eye opener for future safety!
