Mangalore: Workshop on Yakshagana to be Conducted as a Tribute to Kalmadi Vittal Shetty

Mangalore, Oct 26: Kalmadi Vittal Shetty is a well known personality in the field of Yakshagana. His dedication and service towards the field of Yakshagana is immortal.

He has been a backbone support of the Kundavu Mela for almost 5 decades. He is known as “yajamana” by the artistes of different mela’s  including Karnataka and Kateel Mela.

Shetty had also rendered his service in the field of religious activities. He had been the administrative trustee of Ira Sri  Somanatheshwara Temple. It was during his tenure, that this temple had reached higher fames.

Although he expired 6 years back, his name, fame and the developments he carried out has been remembered till today. Annadana (food Serving) is organised in the Ira Sri Somanateshwara Temple, every Monday, in his memory.

Every year as a tribute to Shettu , backward class artistes of yakshagana are recognised and helped.

In order to render a service to the society, a training and workshop in yakshagana, a new trust by name Kalmadi Vittal Shetty Seva Trust ®, is to be inaugurated on Sunday October 28, at the Ira Sri Somanatheshwara temple premises.

This programme is to be presided over by Karnataka Yakshagana Academy president, professor M L Samaga, Nitte Education Trust chairman N Vinay Hegde will inaugurate the trust. Kateel temple Asranna will bless the occasion, said Jagadish Shetty Iraguttu, President of the trust, addressing the media at the press club on Friday October 26.

Suresh Kottari, Jagannath Bhandary, Jayaprasad Shetty and K Deviprasad Shetty were also present at the press meet.
