Bangalore: Melwyn Peris Meets with Accident, Recovering in St John's Hospital

Bangalore, Oct 23: Noted Konkani singer and musician Melwyn Peris, popular among Konkani music lovers as the Yodelling King for his unique style of singing, met with an accident when a truck hit the car near Nelamangala off Bangalore on Sunday October 21 morning.
He suffered fractures in both his hands and other minor injuries. He was first taken to Columbia Asia Hospital near Yeshwanthpur and given treatment, Later, he was shifted to St John’s Hospital on Monday morning.
Surgeries were done on his arms at St John’s Hospital and he is completely out of danger and recovering.
Melwyn, known as Konkani’s Kishore Kumar for his melodious singing, had come to Bangalore along with his family in his car to attend the engagement function of his sister’s daughter.
The accident happened near Nelmangala when Melwyn was returning to Mangalore along with his family.
While his son Lester and niece suffered minor injuries, Melwyn suffered injuries on both his arms.
He is expected to be discharged in another 4 to 5 days.
As news of the accident spread among his family members and large number of friends and music lovers, the family has been flooded with calls.
''We request that Melwyn should be given time to recover and recuperate. At the moment, our main concern is that he recovers quickly,” said a family member, adding: ''By God’s grace and prayers of his vast circle of friends and fans, he will be back singing soon.”
A graduate from St Aloysius College, he is working as a Development Officer in the National Insurance Co. Ltd in Mangalore.
A versatile Konkani singer, Melwyn composes his own songs. His Melwyn Peris Nite shows have become quite popular throughout Mangalore, Udupi, Mysore, Bangalore and other places in Karnataka as well as in Mumbai and in the Gulf countries.
Melwyn is one of the few Konkani singers, who have composed and sung religious and devotional songs and has brought out music CDs.
Melwyn comes from a talented family of singers with his elder brother Denis Peris was a key singer in the troupe of Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus.
Denis Peris also used to act in Konkani dramas as well. Melwyn’s brother Albert and sister Mabel were also singers. The family’s home was aptly known as ''Sangeeth Ghar.”
