Moscow, Oct 23 (IANS/RIA Novosti): The oldest known survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp which was constructed by the Nazis has died at the age of 108, a media report said.

Antoni Dobrowolski died Sunday in the Debno town (northwest Poland) where he lived after World War II, reported PolskaTimes newspaper citing an official of the Auschwitz-Birkenau museum.

Dobrowolski, a primary school teacher, ran secret classes during Nazi Germany's occupation of Poland, when anything beyond four years of elementary education was prohibited.

In 1942, Dobrowolski was arrested by the Gestapo (the official secret police of Nazi Germany) and sent to Auschwitz. He was later moved to the concentration camps of Gross-Rosen and then Sachsenhausen, where he was liberated by the Soviet Army in the spring of 1945 as the war ended.

At Auschwitz, the largest of five Nazi death camps, more than one million people died, 90 percent of them Jews.
