Udupi, Oct 22: The All India Postal Extra Department Employees Union (AIPEDEU) Udupi Division staged a hunger strike along with Gramin Dak Seva in front of Clock Tower Udupi in the morning here on Monday, October 22.
AIPEDEUs strike is held for demanding the better requirements for the ED/GDS employees.
The protesters state that the staff should be placed as permanent government employees, they should avail the facility/grant and bonus like staff from the other departments. They have also appealed for medical aid under the Rashtriya Swastya Bheema Scheme and so on.
Secretary Vijaya Nairy said, “today is the seventh day of the protest, and until now the government nor the postal department has taken any necessary action. Adding to our woes the postal department is threatening us to dismiss us from our jobs”.
They claimed that the postal service is surviving because of Gramin Dak Seva and this can be proved by analyzing the data of October.
“We started strike from October 16 and until October 22, validate the profit from October 1to October 16 and after that a clear picture will appear in front of the government”, they stated.
Pramod Madwaraj, youth Congress leader assured to give full support of behalf of the congress party and also said that Gramin Dak Seva work is known for its sincerity work and it is the government’s responsibility to provide them with all facilities.
The appeal was forwarded through the Tashildar to the postal minister.
Udupi Union president Basava Billava and joint secretary Santhosh Madhyasta, Hemananth, Nagraj Shetty, Divakar Shetty and Sneha Latha, Neera Thottam and others were present.
