Mangalore, Oct 13: Thiruvanjoor Radhakrishnan, state home minister, inaugurated the newly-built Vidyanagar police station and subsidiary central police canteen located at the DC office premises here on Friday October 12.

Speaking after the inauguration, he said that the government has provided all necessary facilities to preserve peace and harmony in society.

As many as 179 new police officials have been appointed in the district. Around 50 vehicles including bikes and mobile phones have been provided to them, he said.

"Strict action will be taken against 134 police officials with criminal background," he said, adding, "Cases of communal violence are decreasing due to the efficiency of police,” he added.

The programme was presided over by MLA N A Nellikunnu.

P Jose George, IG of Kannur, MLA P Abdul Razaq, K Kunhiraman Uduma, E Chandrashekaran, P P Shyamaladevi, zilla panchayat president, Mohammed Saagir, district collector, Mumtaaz Shukoor, Block panchayat president, C H Mohammed Kunhi, Chengala panchayat president among others were present.
