Mangalore, Oct 9: On the occasion of completing 100 years of the Shree Gokarnanatha Kshetra, the 2012 Dasara celebration will be of historical importance, said Harikrishna Bantwal, temple development committee member.
He addressed the media during a press meet organized at Shree Gokarnanatha Kshetra, Kudroli on Tuesday October 9.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the centenary celebration will begin from October 14 and will go on till October 25. More than 200 temple priests will take part in the Brahmakalashotsava rituals along with the presence of Swamiji from Shivagiri Matt on October 19 and 20.
In order to mark the celebration as a historic one, on October 14, devotees across the state, especially from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujrat, Bangalore, Mysore will offer ‘Hasiru Hore Kani’ to the temple.
Adding to that, he said the Hore Kanike will be brought in 1000 vehicles which is a history till date, he said. All the vehicles will reach Nehru Maidan by October 14 and later it will be brought to Kudroli temple in a procession, he said.
People from all religions like Muslims and Christian will be part of Hore Kanike, he added.
Harikrishna said that the average footfall in a day is estimated to be ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 devotees and more than one lac devotees will be part of ‘Annasantharpane’.
HS Sairam, president of temple managing committee, Raghavendra Kulur, vice president, Urmila Ramesh Kumar, co-president of temple development committee, temple development committee members - Devendra Poojary, Vishwanath Kasargod, DR BG Suvarna, M Shekar Poojary, N Harishchandra, DD Kattemar, BP Karkera, Dr Anasuya BT Salian among others were present at the meet.
