Udupi, Oct 8: The parish feast of Our Lady of Mount Rosary, at Mount Rosary Church, Santhekatte was celebrated on Sunday October 7.
Parish priest Fr Philip Neri Aranha, Mount Rosary Church, Fr Denis D'sa, director, Father Muller Medical College, Mangalore, Fr Stany B Lobo, vicar var, Kallianpur varado and parish priest of Milagres Cathedral, Fr Agnelo, Pilar Fathers, Kallianpur, Fr Fedrick D'Souza, St Anna's Church, Thottam, and Fr Edwin, Sacred Heart Church, Kolalagiri were present during the Eucharistic celebration.
Fr Denis D'Sa offered the holy Mass, followed by a sermon on the Sunday Liturgy. He spoke on three major concerns.
- How and why Christian marriages break
- How Christians can make their families and society grow spiritually.
- How every family is linked with one another, with the parish, the society and finally the united Christians.
Speaking on 'how Christian marriages break' he gave statistical facts and said that Mumbai diocese stands first in divorce cases, second Goa, and Mangalore third. "The reason is the fast moving world, where people, specially the youth, expect instant results, just like a T20 cricket match. We have moved from test matches to one day matches and now to T20. We have also moved from home food to fast food, from full courses to crash courses and so on. Same applies to Christian marriages," he explained.
He also spoke on how Christians need to fulfill their obligations as Catholics. "We need to set an example to the rest on what should be our participation in parish activities and how we have to grow in our parishes. We have a common obligation of growing spiritually, but when we have opportunity, how many of us make a use of it?" he said.
He ended the sermon on the final topic of how each family associates with another. "First of all, two families come together in marriage and then play their role in the parish by helping it grow spiritually, which can improve our society as well as the parish. This will make the Almighty happy and it completes the meaning the parish feast," he said.
He wished the parish priest and all the parishioners a wonderful feast.
