Bogota, Oct 4 (IANS): Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos was recovering Wednesday following a successful surgery to remove a cancerous prostate tumor, his doctor said.
The surgery was performed under local anesthetics, and there was no complication, Xinhua quoted urologist Felipe Gomez as saying.
He was accompanied by his family in Fundacion Santa Fe de Bogota hospital, where he will remain for the next three days. Santos was diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer.
"I want to deeply thank to many fellow citizens who have sent me all kinds of messages. The solidarity I have felt fills me with good energy and with the help of god, I hope the doctor can issue a positive report," the president said.
