Udupi, Sep 29: Manipal Sand Heart artistes Srinath Manipal, Venki Palimar and Ravi Hirebettu carved a sand sculpture at Kaup beach near here on Friday September 28 to create awareness on heart diseases.
The sculpture was carved to mark World Heart day.
The sculpture depicted a human face surrounded by cigarettes, with placards carrying messages like 'protect me' and 'one world, one home and one heart'.
Heart is a crucial part of the human body. In the contemporary scenario, people are suffering from heart diseases throughout the world. Concerning this issue, the World Health Organization, from the year 2002, declared September 29 as the heart day to create awareness among the people.
Especially on this heart day, the World Health Organization has planned to educate people throughout the world by awareness programmes about the importance of heart. One crore seventy lac people die due to the heart related problems across the world. If the deaths continue in the same rate, when it comes to 2030, the death toll may increase to 2.5 crore.
Heart disease can also be prevented by following a healthy diet, by exercise and physical activities and by controlling the fat content of the body.
Individuals should be cautious about blood pressure, sugar content in blood, fat content in the body and should undergo regular medical check-ups.
Some of the main reasons for heart disease are
Tobacco: Consumption of tobacco increases harmful toxic contains in the blood and reduces the good contents and makes the blood to clot in blood vessels thus complicating blood circulation which will lead to pressure on heart.
Cholesterol content: Consumption of junk and oily food and excessive eating are the reason for the increase in the cholesterol content in the body which leads to disorders like blood pressure and diabetes.
