Mandya: Security Beefed up at KRS Reservoir


Mandya , Sep 29 (PTI): Police today scaled up security at Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) reservoir here as a precautionary measure in the wake of continued protests over Supreme Court directing Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Karnataka State Reserve Police and District Armed Reserve Police have been deployed to guard the reservoir, police said. In another development the district administration banned entry of people into KRS dam area.

Meanwhile, farmers and Kannada protogonist organisation activists continued dharna and road blockade in various parts of this Cauvery heartland district. Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi (Cauvery Protection Committee) President G Madegowda urged the four union ministers from Karnataka-- S M Krishna, M Mallikarjun Kharge, M Veerappa Moily and K H Muniyappa to quit the ministry in protest against Cauvery River Authority (CRA) decision.

He also urged Chief Minister Jagadish Shettaer to keep up his promise of not releasing water to Tamil Nadu. Meanwhile, Shettar commenced consultations with floor leaders of both Houses of legislature on the situation that has arisen in the aftermath of yesterday's Supreme Court directive to release 9,000 cusecs of water till October 20.
