Mangalore, Sep 27: The U P Mallya road near Car Street will be widened by 15 metres for a distance of 370 metres, said deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda after inspecting the said road here on Thursday September 27.
The inspection was conducted by the DC along with MCC commissioner Harish Kumar and other officials.
The DC said that as many as 44 properties will be vacated alongside the road for the purpose of widening. The owners of the properties have already agreed to vacate and they will be given compensation or transferable development rights, he said.
The entrance of Mahalaxmi Ganapati Temple which falls under the area marked for widening will be pushed further inside, and places like Janatha Bazar will also be included in the plan.
The road widening work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
