Dubai, Sep 25: On September 19, Thumbay Moideen, founder president of Thumbay Group, UAE walked the extra mile to receive the coveted ‘CEO of the year – education’ award at the CEO Middle East awards 2012, a glittering event hosted by the ITP Publishing Group at Jumeirah Emirates Towers, Dubai.
The event saw 14 of the region’s top leaders pick up the prestigious prizes.
ITP Group CEO Walid Akawi was on hand to deliver his message. He said, “The winners are CEO’s who have displayed many different qualities, not just leadership, but innovation, creativity and most important of all, the ability to diversify their businesses”.
Hamad Buamim, director general, Dubai Chamber of Commerce bestowed Moideen with the prestigious award in recognition for his untiring efforts and contribution to provide medical education and healthcare in the region.
With so many firsts to the credit of his group only exemplifies the vision, foresight, dedication and hard work of Moideen who strictly adheres to a regimen of discipline.
Driven by the desire to face business challenges and a vision to be a leader in the field of medical education and healthcare and having equipped himself with necessary experience, expertise, insight, conviction, courage and confidence to strike it big in UAE, Moideen undertook the bold step of establishing the Thumbay Group in UAE in 1998, which paved the way for the first private medical college in UAE known as Gulf Medical College Ajman.
The institution became a University in the year 2008 following a Decree by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, United Arab Emirates.
The Gulf Medical University (GMU) is fully recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education, UAE as an institution imparting higher education offering innovative bachelors, masters and residency programs in the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutical sciences, physical therapy etc.
The Thumbay group has developed into a conglomerate having multifarious business activities and operations spread across the globe.
Today, it encompasses Gulf Medical University, GMC hospitals and research centre, Gulf Medical Centre and GMC pharmacies in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Fujairah. The group also owns and runs international chain of health clubs and Coffee Shoppe, Zo and Mo opticals, Nutri Vita Plus outlets in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
Saeed Ali bin Redha - Hospitality, Dr Ayman Sahli – healthcare, Iskandar Najjar -financial services, Ala’a Eraiqat – banking, Adel Ali – aviation were some of the CEO’s who categorically bagged the prestigious CEO Awards in their respective field.
The special recognition award was presented to Dr Habib Al Mulla while Giancarlo de- Nadai was awarded with lifetime achievement award and May Habib with the young CEO of the year award respectively.
This year’s CEO Middle East Awards were well attended by respected personalities from the region’s business community. The grand event held at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai was a resounding success.
