Mangalore, Sep 14: 'InfoVision 2012', a national-level exhibition conducted by the IT students of AIMIT was formally inaugurated at the AIMIT campus of St Aloysius College, Mangalore on the Thursday September 13.
The dignitaries who were present on the inauguration were J R Lobo, Fr Joseph Rodrigues, Fr Denzil Lobo and Prof Santhosh Rebello.
Following the spiritual invocation, the chief guest J R Lobo, former assistant deputy commissioner and executive director of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama launched the exhibition by rotating a prototype windmill for power generation. A short video clip on ‘Sustainable Energy Powering the Future’ was presented as an introductory note.
In his inaugural speech, J R Lobo congratulated the organizers Lanwin Lobo and Nausheeda B.S. for thinking ahead on this issue and engaging maximum number of colleges to participate in this program. He spoke about the limitation of the fossil fuels, unpredictable future rise in the cost of energy, danger of excessive dependence on traditional energy, and elucidated the significance of moving from traditional energy to renewable energy.
Fr Joseph Rodrigues , Rector of St Aloysius College put more emphasis on the subject raised by the United Nations on sustainable energy for all. His imagination of energy as the golden thread for economic growth and social equity added another positive tone to this theme. Fr Rodrigues also weighed in on the balance in the universal dimension of both genders in this program.
The inaugural part of the program was concluded at 11 am with the rendition of the college anthem by the student choir. The student coordinator, Lijo John delivered the vote of thanks. The two day exhibition was declared open by the chief guest who interacted with the participating teams.
The valedictory of the exhibition took place on Friday September 14 at 4.30 pm. Fr Denzil Lobo, Director, in his speech said that in a few years from now we would be going back to water to power all our vehicles. During the industrial age it was steam that powered all machines, but in the near future it would be the power from spiting water and generating hydrogen would be the source of clean energy. He said nanotechnology is going to play an important role in the power generation of the future. Lanwin, the faculty coordinator read out a report of two days of activities and Prof Santhosh Rebello, the Dean, proposed the vote of thanks.
