Mangalore, Sep 14: Tension prevailed at KSRTC bus stand here on Friday September 14
after KSRTC employees, who are currently on a strike over salary hike, protested alleging that a private bus had tried to enter a KSRTC bus terminus.
As the situation turned out of control, the police had to resort to mild lathi charge to disperse the protesters.
Though the employees alleged that the private bus had entered KSRTC terminus, sources said the bus had not entered the premises for parking or pick-up, but only to take a turn.
However, the employees allegedly misunderstood the intention of the private bus driver and tried to stop it. Chaos erupted at once, leading to police intervention and lathi charge.
Tight police security has been deployed in the KSRTC bus stand. Situation is under control as of now.
KSRTC buses have completely stopped plying in the city in support of the statewide strike called by the KSRTC employees union. The employees have been demanding a hike of 30 percent in their salaries, and have threatened to continue the stir till their demands are met by the government.
