Udupi, Sep 13: The Kota police arrested two persons involved in chain snatching offence.
The arrested have been identified as Sachendra Hebbar (21) and his friend Kishore Acharaya (20) who snatched a gold chain belonging to Kalyani (75), weighing three sovereigns.
It is learnt that Kalyani was on her way home after some work on August 31 when the duo forcefully pulled her chain and fled from the spot.
Kalyani had registered a complaint at Kota police station in this regard.
On September 9 police received confirmed information about one of the accused. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Sachendra Hebbar. When questioned, he allegedly confessed to the crime and also revealed the name of his accomplice Kishore Acharya. As per the information received, the duo sold the gold chain to a finance shop in Mangalore for Rs 61,200.
Police seized Rs 30000 from the amount Kishore obtained after selling the chain and have also recovered the chain from the finance shop.
The duo are remanded under judicial custody, said the police sources. Prabhu DT, Brahmavar circle inspector, Ashok P, PSI of Kota police station, Vital, Jeevan, Bhaskar, Raghavendra, Ravikumar, Ravichandra, Arun under the guidance of Dr Prabhudev B, DYSP of Udupi were part of the investigation.
