Mangalore, Sep 12: The members of the local unit of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested against the government's order to cancel the income-based concession directing payment of full fees.
The protest meet was held in front of the DC's office, after a march from the University College.
As per the new orders passed by the state government, students need to pay the full amount without concession. Those with income certificates would also need to compulsarily open a bank account and the extra amount would be refunded to the students after examining the income certificate.
The fact that, in case the amount is not refunded it may be automatically directed towards laboratory expenses, which is mentioned in the orders, has worried the students. "Government needs to immediately stop this order and reinforce the previous rules and regulations relating to fee structure," urged Vinay Horatti, city secretary, ABVP.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashwini, a V V College student said that it was with great difficulty that the poor students are pursuing their education these days. She also condemend this sort of fee collection from the poor students by the government.
