Bantwal, Sep 12: The members of the anti-dumping yard committee led by MLA U T Khader on Tuesday September 11 laid siege to the garbage collection unit under construction in Sajipanadu, Kanchinadka Padavu, by forcibly locking the gate of the unit.
The protesters claim that the municipal corporation has been allegedly dumping garbage in Sajipanadu without following regulations and conditions set by the pollution control board. Anguished by this act, the locals had sent a memoradum to the MLA.
On Tuesday, the protestors led by MLA U T Khader and ZP member Mamatha Gatti staged a protest in front of the garbage unit and locked the main gate. The compound was locked by Sajipanadu GP president Somanath Bhandary.
Committee honorary president, S Abbas Sajipa, president Venkatesh Bhat Sajipanadu, TP member Yashwanth Deraje, Ira GP president, Razak Kukkaje, Kurnadu GP president, Zubair, Mudipu block Congress minority unit president, S Abubakkar Sajipa and others were present.
DC Opens the Lock
Bantwal muncipal additional officer is said to have brought the incident to the notice of deputy commissioner Dr N Channappa Gowda. It is learnt that the DC called the police and directed them to remove the lock that had been put by the protestors.
Scientific construction
"The construction needs to be completed by December by orders passed by the Supreme Court. All the minor problems have been solved and the construction is being carried out through scientific ways," said muncipal president Dinesh Bhandary.
The municipality has urged the police department to provide tight security as the construction work is being carried out even as the locals and people representatives are protesting against it, he said.
