Ranchi, Sep 3 (IANS): In a dramatic event, an opposition legislator Monday tore up his kurta in the Jharkhand assembly to bring to the government's notice the plight of the industrially displaced people, prompting the speaker to adjourn the house.

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantric (JVM-P) legislator Samresh Singh tore his shirt (kurta) in the assembly demanding rehabilitation and compensation to people displaced by the Bokaro Steel Plant, forcing assembly Speaker C.P. Singh to adjourn the house for an hour.

Opposition legislators came near the speaker's chair demanding that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government make clear its stand on the displacement issue in the state.

Samresh Singh went near Chief Minister Arjun Munda and spoke to him and then ripped off his shirt.

"I asked the CM (Munda) if you want to kill the displaced people of Bokaro Steel Plant then first kill me and I tore my kurta (in protest)," said Samresh Singh to reporters after the house was adjourned.

When the house assembled again at 12 noon, the opposition members again came near the speaker's chair and demanded return of the land acquired by the state government for an Indian Institute of Management and law university on the outskirts of Ranchi.

The house was adjourned till 12.30 p.m. Similar scene were witnessed when the house reassembled. Jharkhand assembly speaker finally adjourned the house till Tuesday.

Pressing another issue, Samresh Singh had climbed onto the table inside the assembly during the 2011 budget session.
