Mangalore, Aug 30: During a simple function held at Sahodaya, Balmatta, Mangalore on Wednesday, August 29, Fr Francis Rodrigues, editor, Raknno, Konkani Weekly inaugurated the A T Lobo Foundation in the memory of the late Konkani novelist.

Inaugurating the Foundation, Fr Francis Rodrigues said that he learnt a lot about A T Lobo through his writings.  His style of writing, especially the idioms that he used were truly authentic and regional.  He applauded the efforts of the foundation to make known the literary treasure of A T Lobo to the new generation.

Chief Guest of the function Edwin J F D'Souza said that A T Lobo was a simple man and that simplicity reflected in his novels.  When we being publishers find it difficult even to sell 300 copies of a book, Foundation's work to popularise A T Lobo's works will be an uphill task, he commented. Neverthless it is worth appreciating.  He promised his full support to the Foundation in achieving its objectives.

Melvyn Rodrigues, Director, Operations - Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd launched the new website www.atlobo.com.  He recollected his memories of 60's and 70's when Mithr Mandali of Derebail used to stage A T Lobo's play regularly at Derebail church grounds and at Don Bosco Hall.

He told the audience how A T Lobo used to write his novels taking eraser and paper in his hands.  The patience he used to have cannot be seen amongst today's writers he opined.

Benna Ruzai and Carmelita D’souza, who were a part of the acting crew in many of A T Lobo's plays, spoke on the occasion.

President of the foundation Alice Lobo, Secretary Celine Sequeira, vice-president, Lynette D'Souza, treasurer, Charles Pais, founder Simon Lobo, A T Lobo's brothers Lawrence, Ignatius, Peter and close family members of A T Lobo were present during the function.

Wilma Lobo, proposed vote of thanks. Alwyn Pinto compered the programme.
