Mapusa, Aug 28: The common citizen must be motivated to participate enthusiastically in the massive drive to get desired result from the devastating ill effects of plastic.
The students from various schools, NSS volunteers and NCC cadets must be utilized to create awareness amongst the general public and it must be continued initially for three months said Dr Purnanand Savoikar while addressing the students at an awareness program organized by Butukak Memorial Trust in collaboration with St Xavier’s College here on August 26.
A SMART power point presentation was conducted by Dr Purnanand Savoikar, head, Department of Civil Engineering at Government Polytechnic College, Mayem - Bicholim Goa on the topic “Plastic: Use and Management”.
Various types of plastics, their usage, effective management and the ideal ways of achieving the target of making Goa an ideal state were explained. The success of the presentation was seen through the various questions asked by the students from various schools of Mapusa.
The executive director operations for BMT, explained about the vision, mission and philosophy of the trust. He further said that the board of trustees believes that education can transform the lives of our most competent students and their families eternally. We must note that the five basic elements can help us to live in harmony with our self and with the planet. Once the balance is shaken then we find great commossions in this world. The cycle changes and we get the wrong results, he stated.
BMT’s approach of associating with individuals, organizations, institutions to reach the goal, “Think Simple. Be convincing” the motto of BMT and “We do not aspire anything but the will of God” which will facilitate the members of society to be a part of this holistic dream and share the concept said the president of the function DrWalter De Sa.
He also appealed the students to spread the massage amongst the society members. He further said, The idea of conducting the All Goa Mobile Photograqphy Competition was very inovative and produced good photographs which are eye openrs for us. Hence these photographs must be used to create awareness by visiting schools and collages throughout the state.
In the beginning the coordinator of program Dr Tushar Anvekar, in-charge, NCC infantry wing of Xavier’s college welcomed and explained about the objectives of organizing this program. Dr Walter De Sa, principal, St Xavier’s College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mapusa, inaugurated the program by lighting the traditional lamp.
On May 30, to commemorate silver jubilee celebration of the Goa Statehood Day, BMT Goa had organized all Goa Mobile Photography Competition to create awareness amongst the youth for protecting the environment. The topics were scenario at the dustbins in Goa between 6.00 to 7.00 am or scenario in the absence of dustbins in Goa between 6.00 to 7.00 am.
Youth from various locations from Goa participated in this competition. The photographs were judged on the content, creativity while capturing the picture and the caption given to the photograph.
