Mumbai, Aug 27 (IBNS): Twenty-three people, who were arrested in connection to the recent violence in Mumbai's Azad Maidan, are likely to undergo medical examination on Monday amid reports that they were hit by the police at Arthur Road Jail where they are lodged.
The accused, who claimed they were beaten up by the police inside the prison, had moved a local court in the matter. The court directed they should undergo medical examination to confirm the allegations.
According to reports, the court might order criminal actions against the prison staff of Arthur Road Jail if the results of the medical examination validate their claims.
At least two people were killed and 50 injured on August 11 in violence that erupted at a protest meeting in Mumbai organised to decry the Assam violence, triggering arson and attack on the mediapersons and cops.
