Mangalore, Aug 25: Inauguration of a two-day Faculty Development Programme on Multivariate Statistical Research, Inter-Dependence Techniques was held on August 23 at 9.30 am at AIMIT, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Beeri, Mangalore.
The inauguration commenced with a prayer and the lighting of the lamp. Sumitha Achar, the programme coordinator, in her welcome speech highlighted the importance of multivariate statistical research.
The chairman Dr Oswald Mascarenhas gave a bird’s eye view of the programme. He stressed that multivariate statistical research is a challenge for all. He emphasized on the fact that data needs to be reliable.
He asked the participants to check the reliability, integrity and quality of the data before applying multivariate techniques. He reiterated that the participants must enjoy the process of collection of data as well as actually doing research. He also highlighted the importance of interpretation and implementation of the data.
Fr Denzil Lobo, director, AIMIT, gave a brief history of AIMIT campus and the facilities it offers. He drew parallels between Kekule’s Benzene ring Structure, Einstein’s Mass- Energy relationship and Multivariate statistical research.
Venkatesh Amin, MDP Coordinator proposed vote of thanks. Claret D’Souza compeered the event.
There were forty participants which included two students from XIMJ, Jabalpur. The participants gained hands-on training using some of the SPSS packages.
