Sexual Abuse: Goa CM Orders Dismissal of Teachers

Panaji, Aug 24 (IBNS) : Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has ordered immediate removal of two male teachers who are facing charges of sexual abuse.

Panaji school teacher Kanhaiya Naik, 45, who allegedly raped his student last year and is also booked for abetment to suicide after the minor victim self-immolated, last month, has been dismissed.

The action follows after Parrikar was informed that the school authorities have failed to initiate disciplinary action against the art teacher despite he faces two criminal charges.

Naik was arrested and released on bail for both offenses.

Another school teacher from the state’s southernmost Canacona taluka Ashok Kumar also faces dismissal after the Vishaka Committee held him guilty of sexually abusing his student.

“Knowledge without character has no meaning,” Parrikar said.
