Mangalore, Aug 18: The 66 Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner at the St Theresa’s School, Bendoor on August 15.
The school band welcomed the chief guest of the function Dr Santhosh Soans, a proficient pediatrician; Claudette Fernandes, vice-president of the PTA; Sr Premitha, dynamic principal of the school with the guard of honor.
The ceremony started with the unfurling of the school flag followed by the National Anthem. The school band played the tunes and the students conducted a march past.
The cultural programme commenced with a prayer. Sr Premitha welcomed the august gathering. Rhea Cutinha, an eigth grade student spoke about the minds of the youth today and said that the ‘generation next’ will lead India in the future.
A dance was performed by the second grade students with the theme ‘eradication of corruption’.
The chief guest in his speech inspired the students saying that the youth of today will be the visionaries and torch bearers of tomorrow. He added that students should develop personality skills of the mind to be responsible human beings with leadership qualities.
Dr Devi Prabha, a lecturer at St Agnes College had started a scholarship in memory of her daughter Prathika Alva. This scholarship is being awarded to deserving tenth grade students who work hard to excel. Vishesh Goel, Micheal Pais, Trishank Fernandes, Ruth Pritika, Rachel Mendonca and Aishwarya Rai were the recipients of this years scholarships.
Sr Anita, vice principal delivered the vote of thanks. Trishank Fernandes and Shreya Sharma compered the programme.
