Bangalore, Aug 13: Railway police have started checking passengers and their luggage in Bangalore, Mysore and some other railway stations following threats from suspected terror groups to carry out bomb blasts on the eve of the Independence Day.

According to Railway Police DIG B Srikantappa, intelligence inputs have been received regarding the possible bomb blasts by some terror groups on trains operating between Bangalore and Mysore.

The threat alerts are regarding trains originating from Bangalore or Mysore, he said indicating that the Railway Police would not like to take any chances.

''It is quite possible that the terror groups may want to create heavy damage and create panic among the people on the eve of the Independence Day and thereby dent the morale of the public,” he indicated.

''Our officers and staff are on the alert and the public are cautioned to be extra careful regarding any suspicious movements and unattended parcels,”  he said.

Srikantappa said the police and security agencies will be busy with bandobast duties in connection with the Independence Day parades, which might be utilized by the terror groups to strike.

''We don’t want to take any chances as it is always better to be careful rather than be sorry later,” he said.
