Kota, Aug 10: Hundreds of acres of farmland have flooded due to torrential rains that lashed since Thursday August 9 night.
The farmlands located in Bettlakki, Giliyaru, Uplady, Kartattu, Kavady and others near Kota, here are flooded, distressing the peasants who have planted saplings and nurtured commercial crops.
The large farmlands in and across Udupi district are inundated, posing threat to the crops. Flash floods have occurred owing to a narrow culvert located on the national highway 66 at Mabukula, posing threats to motorists and pedestrians. Sea erosion has been witnessed along the sea shore at Manoor – Padukare, Kotatattu – Padukare and Kody Kanyana, threatening the household families living along the coast and banks of the rivulets.
Temple flooded:
The Mahalingeshwar temple, Alsekere – Giliyar, near Kota, here was threatened of submerging in flood waters. The access road from Kota to Giliyar has been flooded causing distress to residents.
Games postponed:
The games that were scheduled to be held at Government Higher Primary School, Moodugiliyar, near here on Friday August 10 were postponed to be held at the same venue on Thursday August 23.
