Olympic Athletics: Blade Runner's 400 Metre Dream Over

London, Aug 6 (IANS): The first half of Oscar Pistorius' incredible Olympic adventure came to an end Sunday night when he failed to qualify for the final of the men's 400 metres.

The 25-year-old received a huge ovation as he took to the blocks in his semifinal , but finished last place in his race with a time of 46.53 seconds, Xinhua reported early Monday.

Pistorius made history Saturday when he became the first person to compete in the Olympic Games with carbon fiber prosthetic legs after having his legs amputated below the knee as a baby.

The South African, nicknamed 'Blade Runner', had finished second in his heat Saturday morning, earning the respect and affection of the fans in the Olympic Stadium for his incredible feat, who he saluted before leaving the arena.

He will return to action as a member of South Africa's 4X400 metre relay team later in the week.
