Olympic Cycling: British Record-breakers Storm to Gold in Team Pursuit

London, Aug 4 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Britain stormed to gold at the Olympic velodrome here Friday, demolishing Australia in the men's team pursuit final in world record time.

The British team of Edward Clancy, Geraint Thomas, Steven Burke and Peter Kennaugh set a blistering pace to win in 3 minutes 51.659 seconds, almost two seconds faster than their own world record had been before the Olympics.

Britain retained their title from Beijing four years ago and won their third cycling medal of the Olympics so far.

Australia's Jack Bobridge, Glenn O'Shea, Rohan Dennis and Michael Hepburn finished 2.922 seconds behind Britain for the silver medal.

Bronze went to the New Zealand team, who beat Russia by 2.3 seconds in the bronze medal race after resisting a mid-race Russian charge to win in a time of 3 minutes 55.292 seconds.
