Mangalore, Jul 27: The union government is in the process of gathering biometric data under National Population Register (NPR) based on NPR schedules of the house list of population census taken in 2011, which will begin in August 2012 and be completed by June 2013. Its chief objective is to create an elaborate data base of everyone living in the country.
In order to gather biometric data, a photo session will be held across Dakshina Kannada district. The fingerprints and retina scan of every citizen over the age of five years will be taken for enrollment. The enrollment will be held in the presence of government officials appointed in this regard. One can enroll their data by submitting the slip that was given by enumerators during home visits and a letter issued by them to come for enrollment.
The specimen forms will be issued to every household family for general information on NPR Smart Card enrollment. It will have information on enrollment centre, date and time, the documents required.
Every citizen should compulsorily hold NPR Smart Card under Citizenship Act of 1955 section 14 A and Civil Law of 2003. It will enable them to avail government facilities.
Only 50 enrollments will be done in a day at each centre. An advance intimation will be issued to people on the set date. Sub-district Registrars (city corporation commissioner / Tahsildar / town council chief officer) are instructed to advertise the date of photo session in different centers.
The general public is urged not create chaos while the enrollment process is ongoing. The co-operation of residents of Dakshina Kannada district is being sought in this regard.
