Beltangady, Jul 25: The police have arrested six people involved in stealing aluminum cables worth lacs which were meant to be used for electric poles here on Monday July 23 night.
The police have seized three-quarter tons of wire and a 407-truck from the thieves.
The accused are identified as Praveen (23) from Aldur Hoballi in Chikmagalur, Abdul Khadri (32) from Charmaadi gram in Beltangady, Mohammad Iqbal (31) from Neriya gram, Akbar Ali (23) from bayalu mane in Neriya gram, Hyder (38) from Mudanje and Asbak (20) from Venur.
As per the complaint filed by Densil D’souza, store keeper at Deepak Cables India private limited, it is learnt that the thieves had stolen 750 kgs of cables from Kapinabaagilu storeroom in Mudanje. The cables were meant for the installation of the UPCL tower.
While investigating the theft, Beltangady police caught the thieves on Monday and have recovered aluminum cables worth Rs 1.2 lac, electrical fittings, 300 kgs of iron materials and a the 407-truck .
The thieves were produced in court on Tuesday.
Circle inspector Bhaskar Rai, SI Yogesh Kumar, Kushalappa Gowda, Paulos, Praveen, Mahesh, Harish, Ganesh, Rajesh, Venkatesh, jeep driver BN Budki among others were part of the investigation team.
